Virtual Production is a way of filming that brings digital environments, real locations, and physical sets together. Instead of relying entirely on location shoots or adding backgrounds later in post-production, scenes can be captured in front of LED screens or composited in real-time. This gives productions greater control over lighting, weather, locations and creative decisions, helping crews work more efficiently while capturing more of the final image in camera.

2D Playback

2D playback or “Plates” allows productions to use captured footage as an on-set background, providing realistic movement, lighting and reflections without the need to build a full 3D environment. As no camera tracking is involved it is a cost-effective option for controlled shots, simulated travel sequences (sometimes referred to as Car Process) and scenes where camera movement is limited.

Reduce the need for process trailers, low loaders and road closures, helping productions manage cost while keeping cast and crew in a safer, controlled environment.

Plates add authentic light and motion to vehicles, glass and glossy surfaces, where moving imagery helps create more natural, realistic reflections.

3D Real-Time Environments

3D real-time environments are digital worlds that can be explored and adjusted live on set. Unlike 2D plates, they respond to camera movement utilising our tracking solution, creating natural perspective, depth and parallax. This makes them ideal for scenes where the camera needs freedom to move, where environments need to be changed quickly, or where productions want greater creative control over lighting, layout, time of day and world design.

Gives greater freedom with camera movement compared to 2D plates playback.

Our experienced 3D engine operators have worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest names and can make live adjustments on set, helping productions respond quickly to creative and technical needs.

LiDAR and set scanning allows us to create accurate digital twins of real locations, giving productions greater flexibility for pickups, reshoots and scenes where physical access is limited or impractical.

Create custom 3D environments in Unreal Engine, surrounding actors within the world of the story in real time.

We design Virtual Production setups at every scale, from small LED panels for specific shots through to large LED volume builds.
